EC California Partners On K-14 Retrofit Projects
ECC is helping California meet its substantial commitment to retrofitting public schools over the next five year under Proposition 39, the California Clean Energy Jobs Act.
Under Prop. 39, 2,000 K-12 school districts and 72 community college districts (112 community colleges) will have access to $2.5 billion of voter-approved funding to improve energy performance of their facilities to save energy and money while curbing air pollution and improving the learning environment for students and employees. Prop. 39 also encourages and funds workforce initiatives to train disadvantaged workers for jobs in the energy efficiency/clean energy sector.
Each ECC California site was awarded a contract to convene, train and/or provide technical assistance on these “high road” energy efficiency projects. Under a contract with the California Workforce Investment Board and in partnership with the California Labor Federation, EC-LA will provide technical assistance to six California regional workforce collaboratives – from Sacramento to Fresno to Los Angeles – to help design and implement career pathways for disadvantaged populations and veterans into union apprenticeships and Prop. 39 projects working with contractors.
ECBay Area – San Francisco is included in one of these regional workforce collaboratives and received funding as a convener of industry stakeholders. ECBay Area – Oakland will provide technical support to the Oakland Unified School District as part of the Kw Engineering firm’s technical assistance team.
